Buy Local Food Save The Environment

Monday, 7 September 2009

Do you know how far the apple in your kitchen traveled before you picked it up at the grocery store? According to the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture
apples in American grocery stores typically travel 1
726
miles before reaching your kitchen!

Just think about the fuel needed to transport produce like this across the country or across borders. Also think about the pollution generated by the vehicles carrying this produce. An apple a day may keep the doctor away but the fumes accompanying it will definitely hurt us!

The impact on the environment is one issue
but we also have to worry about preservatives that are used to keep this apple nice and crispy during its very long journey to your grocery store. To keep produce fresh during the long haul across continents and oceans
produce companies have to use chemical preservatives. It is well documented that preservatives are hazardous to human health.

So what can we do? Well
you can try your best to buy local produce whenever possible. Even though America has lost more than 5 million farms (USDA figures) since 1935
there are still many farmers who have generated markets for themselves in the cut throat world of global competition.

Since produce from your local farms are traveling very short distances there is less pollution created in their transport. There is also less packaging and processing involved which also helps to lessen the amount of garbage we put into the environment and ourselves!

There is hope. Many small farms surrounding suburban communities or urban city centers have weekly or daily farmers’ markets. These markets connect regional small farmers with suburban and urban dwellers. Check to see if there is a market like this in your community. Often times the cooperative sponsoring the market can’t afford to spend a lot on advertising so you’ve got to search out their location. Try your local business improvement association or municipal office to see if they might be able to help.

It really is enjoyable to mix up your food shopping routine by purchasing your fresh produce and meats at your local farmers’ market. In many cases you can negotiate prices (which is fun). I also find your fellow shoppers are generally in a happier frame of mind when they’re perusing farmer’s booths than when they’re steering a shopping cart through crowded aisles at the grocery store.

If you’re like me and treasure the rural areas surrounding your urban region
then you also likely feel the sense of sadness each time a farm is sold for yet another residential or commercial development. Here’s your chance to do your bit to save the “family farm” (and help curb urban sprawl).

Find out the location of your nearest farmers’ market
note the dates that they are open and plan to be there bright and early to get the freshest
tastiest food choices of the day! Your family will thank you
you’ll be supporting your local economy and helping to save the environment.

this momentarily expansion is a double-edged sword for a customer. Competition in the Californian Wine Market is getting more intensive and impactive that many rare wines are priced very aptly; while some average wines are sold in very high price.

labelling and promotion not always affect the standard of the Wine but the price is affected by these. The technologies and concepts that are used in the Wineries are sometimes responsible for the price-hike. Some famous Wineries have their reputed brand of wines which are very high in price.

AS Wine is a living thing it needs an extra care in order to keep its quality standard. Tussle during the shipment sometimes abolish the virtue of the wines which is incurred by a long term process. According to the Wine experts wine should be bought one or more week before to open it. The Wine should be stored in dark with a corked cap to make it fresh and preserved. for the online ordering of Wine an adult must be in the house to receive the shipment when it arrives. The unaccepted Wines are generally return back to the warehouse and it is very difficult to get it back from the warehouse. Moreover the wines deposited in the warehouses are sometimes loose its quality and taste.

Burgandy France - Famous For Its Wines

The terroir is a group of vineyards or vines from the same area which have a common soil and climate. And nowhere else
other than Burgundy in France
is it held so fondly.

Burgundy is a region situated in central east France
which experiences bitter cold winters matched with beautiful warm summers. It is the home of 1.6 million inhabitants.

Burgundy (Bourgogne) is famous throughout the world for its wines. Spanning over 31
500
square kilometers (over 12
0
square miles)
with a 360 km (225 mi) strip stretching 100km (60 mi) south of Paris
down from south of Dijon to north of Rho๔ne
houses 99 different wine appellations.

Ranging from the vibrant red Pommard and Corton to the medium Beaune — to the sparkling whites
the dry Chablis or Chassagne Montrachet
over 180 million bottles of some of the fines wines are made in this region.

As an aftermath of the French revolution the vineyards belonging to the monasteries were broken down to smaller plots – which exist even today.

The finest quality wine
designated as “Premier Cru” – is available from 600 of the vineyards in the region while 33 of them is credit to produce the even more classy “Grand Cru” wines. Among these the most renowned are Montrachet
Chambertin and Clos Vougeot.

Made from the pinot noir grapes
the burgundy red wines taste best with Boeuf Bourguignon or pheasant. On the other hand a Chablis or their sparkling white wines go best with anything from shrimps to goat cheese.

The famous white wine called Chablis derives its name from a village of the same name. These are dry whites with an acidity that refreshes. The special Chardonnay grapes thrive in limestone that has been made richer with remains of fossils.

As an accompaniment to lamb or grilled chicken
the best choice is the fruity-flavored
world famous Beaujolais made from the Gamay grape. These grapes grow in granite limestone.

The ever-popular and delicious red is grown in Volnay for the last 8 centuries. The grapes are Pinot Noir grown across 600 acres which is responsible in producing 1.3 million bottles of this amazing wine which has the flavors of raspberries and violets.

And then there is Meursault
located close by
famous for its Premier Cru labels of finest white wines. 2.5 million bottles of the finest wine
Chardonnay
aged anywhere between 3 to 15 years is grown in just over 1000 acres. Fish in white sauce go extremely well with this fine wine with its almond and apple flavors.

But what still makes the headlines is the red Pommard with its tannic and manly flavor
staging a comeback after many years of decline. From just 780 acres of Pinot Noir grown in limestone and red clay are produced 1.8 million bottles of this wine with the flavors of black cherry and black currant. Goes excellent with game venison and roasted red meat with Livarot cheese
these can age from 5 to 15 years.

Whatever your taste buds need
there is very little chance of returning home disappointed with a Burgundy.

Buffalo Wing Sauce Recipe

The simple ingredients used are ketchup
warm honey
lemon’s juice
butter
Louisiana sauce
white vinegar
chopped tomato
garlic and onion and dry cayenne peppers. Buffalo hot wing sauce has become an institution to reckon with
based on these readily available items-unbelievable
is it not? Well
age-old experience and a one-track dedication towards maintaining a unique health conscious formula has made Buffalo hot wing sauce a legend in the hot wing barbecue sauce industry.

Most barbecue sauces mix a sour
sweet and spicy taste. Much in demand
hot wing sauces are tomato based with vinegar and sugar as the key components. However
Buffalo hot wing sauce is preservative free with no MSG
cholesterol or sugars. Buffalo Wing Time sauces were developed specially for health freaks who would go for a wing and the treadmill afterwards
with equal zest.

A sauce or a wing sauce
Buffalo is always the one
on which you can rely blindfolded. The production procedure of Buffalo wing sauce is a marvel in itself. Every production batch of Buffalo sauce is kept purposefully small
so that production value remains at its optimum best. Each buffalo container is individually handled so that quality and consistency is not compromised under any circumstance.

Each Buffalo hot wing sauce container comes with a helpful and easy to comprehend cooking manual. A Buffalo’s novelty does not lie in being original; its success lies in packaging age-old wisdom in a novel way. It encourages barbecues and broiling. Research has it
that the traditional deep fat frying methods of preparing wings is nutrient destroying
to say nothing of the accumulated fat. Buffalo is what a wing sauce should be; very few people have been able to stop after using it once.

The Anchor Bar Buffalo Wing Sauce has the original recipe of Frank & Teresa. Way back in 1964
they had hit off the recipe that went on to become a success. The Wing Time Garlic Buffalo Wine Sauce is a garlic tinged lip smacker.

Buffalo Wings Recipe

Ingredients
1
cup butter
1
cup Louisiana hot sauce or other
1
dash ground pepper
1
dash garlic powder
1
cup flour
1
teaspoon paprika
1
teaspoon cayenne pepper
1
teaspoon salt
10
chicken pieces
Vegetable oil for frying

Directions
Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees. You want just enough oil to cover the wings entirely
an inch or so deep at least. Combine the butter
hot sauce
ground pepper
and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until the butter is melted and the ingredients are well blended.

Combine the flour
paprika
cayenne pepper
and salt in a small bowl. If the wings are frozen
be sure to defrost and dry them. Put the wings into a large bowl and sprinkle the flour mixture over them
coating each wing evenly. Put the wings in the refrigerator for 60 to 90 minutes. (This will help the breading to stick to the wings when fried.)

Put all the wings into the hot oil and fry them for 10 to 15 minutes or until some parts of the wings begin to turn dark brown. Remove the wings from the oil to a paper towel to drain. But don't let them sit too long
because you want to serve the wings hot. Quickly put the wings into a large bowl. Add the hot sauce and stir
coating all the wings evenly. You could also use a large plastic container with a lid for this. Put all the wings inside the container
add the sauce
put on the lid
and then shake. Serve with Bleu cheese
Ranch
or other salad dressing and celery sticks on the side.

Yields: 2 to 4 servings.

Broken Coffee Machine Getting It Repaired Needn t Be A Hassle

When your commercial coffee machine needs to be repaired
you will of course want it to be fixed as soon as possible. But what is involved in having it repaired? When you are choosing a company to repair your coffee machine
make sure you ask them the following questions:

How long will it take to fix? Obviously this depends on the extent of the problem
however some companies will aim to fix your machine within 24 hours
and some will fix it on-site or
if you take it to them
will fix it while you wait
allowing you to get your machine back in action as soon as possible.

Will a loan machine be provided? If your machine is going to take time to fix
it can be a good idea to choose a repair company who will offer a machine for you to use in the meantime. The last thing you want is to loose business because of a broken machine!

Is my coffee machine covered? Double-check that the company you have chosen actually can repair the type of machine you have
as some companies will only repair specific makes. If you do not see your machine listed on their website
it can be worth giving the company a ring and asking them if they will fix yours- sometimes they will make an exception.

Is my area covered? Depending on where the company are based
they may have a set radius that they will visit. If you are outside of their region
you may have to find an alternative company or take your machine to them; however
again
it can be worth calling the company in question to check whether they will make an exception for you.

Once you have answers to the above questions
you should be well on your way to getting your machine up and running again!

Brewpub Heaven

Sunday, 6 September 2009

Everyone knows that if your looking for the best in coffee
you go to Seattle. For wine
you go to California. When it comes to the best in beer
you go to Portland Oregon
where your never more than 15 minutes away from a quality brewpub.

The Williamette Rive in western Oregon has been the center of hop growing and brewing since the days of the pioneers. When the microbrew revolution began
the history and the hops were already there
along with the spring water
the grain
and the fruit for summer beers. As a result
regional brewers and microbrewers began to pop up all over the place.

After that
it didn't take long at all for the brewpub to follow. These beers weren't just for washing down food anymore. The hand crafted beers could be used in cooking
just like wine. In the brewpubs of Portland
the beer also forms a base for salad dressing
spices up marinades
and even helps to sweeten the desserts as well.

Many brewpubs will offer a sampler of the best in beer tasting. You can think of it as wine tasting without the snooty steward. You sip on small amounts of a variety of brews to see what the brewer can do
from the light and hoppy to the dark yet sweet brews.

What to expect

1
Good head on the beer. Good head ensures that you'll get a strong smell of the brew
so be sure to pour it into your glass very carefully.

2
Always use a glass. You should always use a clean glass
a very clean glass. In most brewing establishments
the glasses are always hand washed and air dried to ensure that there isn't a speck of grease in the glass to deflate the head and leave soapy looking bubbles behind.

3
The English are right. As the English know
refrigerated beer is too cold to fully appreciate the taste. In brewpubs
the beer is served at temperatures that are cool but not that cold. The iced and chilled glasses are saved for martinis.

4
Vocabulary. Beer has a mouth feel
which describes the body of the brew - light
medium
and full. The color can be misleading
as even light bodied beers can be full bodied.

Anytime you are looking for the best in microbrews
you can count on Oregon to deliver the best in beer. There are hundreds of brewpubs here
with everything you could ever want. Anytime you are in the area
don't hesitate to stop off and see why the microbrews here are easily among the best in the United States - or the world for that matter.

Brewing The Best With A Home Espresso Machine

There are those among us who have an addiction. It’s an all-encompassing fever that holds us hostage until we answer its call. It’s coffee; and hot or cold
black or light
sweet or bitter
we love it all. But sometimes an ordinary coffee just won’t do. When espresso is your caffeine fix of choice
it can be inconvenient and pricey to visit to a specialty coffee store every time you need a fix. For these moments – and for those who want to enjoy espresso at any time – a home espresso machine is the answer.

There are several different definitions of a home espresso machine; they generally fit into three categories.

The manual home espresso machine requires full operator participation; the user adds water and coffee grinds and maintains control over the beverage until it is completely brewed.

The semi-automatic home espresso machine is a combination of user and machine. The user actually starts the machine
the machine takes over to brew the coffee
and the user turns the machine off.

The full automatic home espresso machine requires no operator participation. The machine goes through the entire brewing process from start to finish.

Finding the perfect home espresso machine for you is as easy as visiting your local home goods retailer. There
you will find a variety of machines that vary in components
color
and price. Online shopping can also be a great alternative for finding that home espresso machine that works best for your space restrictions and lifestyle. You can also find a variety of consumer reports that can alert you to those brands that have performed well in the marketplace.

A home espresso machine means a new world of coffee self-sufficiency where the lines at the local coffee house need no longer call your name. Now
the perfect brew can be yours at any time of day
right in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Brewing Beer

Beer drinkers see a pint of beer as a magical golden brew. Many have said that it's surely the Nectar of the Gods. In reality
most beers are based on a basic four-ingredient recipe
and undergo a simple brewing process before bringing joy to the parched bar patrons of the world.

Beer is created using a basic mixture of water
hops
malted barley and yeast. Depending on the type of beer being brewed
taste enhancements such as flavourings and sugar will be added. Starches are also incorporated into the beer so that sugars will easily ferment during the brewing process. The fermented sugars add body and flavour
while increasing the alcohol content.

Water
Beer is mainly composed of water
so the source of the water and its characteristics has an important effect on the character of the beer. Many beer styles were influenced by the characteristics of water in the region. Some beer makers claim that spring water or mountain water create their unique flavour and body. Understanding the effects of water minerals can be complex
but basically soft water is suited to light brews
where hard water is more suitable for dark beers.

Hops
Since the seventeenth century
hops have been used as a popular bittering agent in beer. Adding hops is important
as the bitterness helps to counteract the sweetness of the malts. Hops also contribute a variety of aromas ranging from herbal to citrus. The bitterness in beer is generally measured using the International Bitterness Units scale. Hops also provide an antibiotic effect that favors the activity of brewer's yeast over less desirable microorganisms.

Malt
Every beer requires malt in its basic recipe. Brew masters can choose to use malted oats
rye
wheat or rice
but malted barley is most commonly used. Malted barley has high amylase content
and a digestive enzyme that helps break the starches down into sugars. The choice of malts depends heavily on what grains are cultivated locally. To create malt the grains are soaked in water
allowed to germinate
then dried in a kilt. As grain is malted
naturally occurring enzymes work to gradually convert starches into fermentable sugars.

Yeast
Yeast is a living microorganism that creates fermentation. The brew master will choose from different strains of yeast
depending on the type of beer produced. Yeast helps metabolize sugars extracted from the grains
and produces alcohol and carbon dioxide as a result. Before the functions of yeast were fully understood
beers were fermented using wild or airborne yeasts. Today there is a variety of yeasts available
with ale yeast and lager yeast being most commonly used.

Clarifying agent
Many brewers prefer to add one or more clarifying agents to beer
but are not required to publish these agents as "ingredients". Isinglas
bentonite
gelatin finings and Irish moss powder are all commonly used as clarification agents. Isinglas is a gelatinous substance obtained from the swim bladders of fish
so if you're concerned about consuming animal products
be sure to ask of detailed content information from the brewer of your preferred beer.

Next time you pour yourself a cold pint
stop to consider the careful choice of ingredients and the lengthy brewing process that were involved in creating your little glass of heaven. Raise a toast to your brew master
and leave your car keys at home.

Bottled Drinking Water Pure Or Impure

Some people think it is foolish to buy bottled drinking water
and ask
“Why pay for water in bottles when you can get it from your kitchen faucet?” Others prefer having choices in drinking water. They want to know what is going into their bodies
they say. To that
the faucet-water drinkers counter
“Have you ever run tests on your faucet water and your bottled drinking water?

Whichever way you think
you should choose your drinking water carefully. You may even want to run tests – or obtain literature showing the results of tests that have been run on the various drinking waters available to you.

Take bottled drinking water. To many people
the fact that the water is bottled means it is pure. But is it? Might it be possible that your bottled drinking water contains as great a colony of “water criminals” as your tap water does?

Bottled Drinking Water Terminology

The following are definitions frequently used on the labels of bottled drinking water to describe the water’s characteristics
sources
and methods of treatment. They may surprise you. These definitions are taken from the pamphlet
“Bottled Water Basics” published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

* Artesian water
ground water
spring water
well water - water from an underground aquifer which may or may not be treated. Well water and artesian water are tapped through a well. Spring water is collected as it flows to the surface or via a borehole. Ground water can be either.

* Distilled water - steam from boiling water is recondensed and bottled. Distilling water kills microbes and removes water’s natural minerals
giving it a flat taste.

* Drinking water – water intended for human consumption and sealed in bottles or other containers with no ingredients except that it may optionally contain safe and suitable disinfectants. Fluoride may be added within limitations set in the bottled water quality standards.

* Mineral water – Ground water that naturally contains 250 or more parts per million of total dissolved solids.

Did you notice …?

* Bottled drinking water is not necessarily pure
just as tap water is not pure.

* Bottled drinking water may come from an aquifer that has been treated with chemicals or not treated at all. Tap water will normally be treated.

* Bottled drinking water may contain any number of impurities such as human or animal waste – many that tap water is not permitted to contain.

* Bottled drinking water may contain disinfectants and fluorides - just as tap water does!

* Bottled drinking water may contain minerals
even lead!

Bottled drinking water is often much more impure than you could hope!

Bottled Drinking Water Standards

The USFDA does set standards for bottled drinking water. You will want to read them if you are serious about providing pure drinking water for your family.

Bottled drinking water sold in U.D. interstate commerce
including products bottled overseas
must meet the following minimum federal standards:

* Bottled drinking water must meet FDA standards for physical
chemical
microbial
and radiological contaminants. When EPA sets a new standard for a contaminant in tap water
FDA must establish a new standard for the same contaminant in bottled drinking water or find that EPA’s new standard is not applicable to bottled drinking water.

TRANSLATION: Bottled drinking water need be no better than tap water. In fact
it may be held to less stringent standards.

* Bottlers must include the name of the product and type of water; the name and address of the manufacturer
packer
or distributor; and the net content on their labels.

TRANSLATION: Labels on bottled drinking water do not have to tell you what has been added to the water.

* New bottled drinking water sources must be approved by a state or local jurisdiction. Bottlers must also test their sources and finished bottled drinking water products at least once a week for microbiological contaminants and at least once a year for physical
chemical
and radiological contaminants.

TRANSLATION: Once the source is approved by the government
using EPA and FDA standards
it is up to the bottler to maintain its cleanliness.

* If bottled drinking water is found to be adulterated or hazardous to health
it is subject to FDA enforcement action
such as seizure of domestic products and refusal of entry of imports.

TRANSLATION: Bottled drinking water is not guaranteed pure by anyone. Only if actual hazards are found may enforcement action take place.

* Bottlers must operate their plants in accordance with FDA’s good manufacturing practices to ensure that their bottled drinking water products are safe and produced under safe and sanitary conditions.

TRANSLATION: Your bottled drinking water is to be produced under safe and sanitary conditions
but actual contents are not strictly controlled.

Bottled drinking water is good to have on hand in case of an emergency
but don’t think of bottled drinking water as pure drinking water. Purity can vary from one brand to another and from one batch to another.

Boost Your Energy Levels

If you woke up last Tuesday feeling tired and are still feeling run down
do not think that this is the end of the world and that your energy levels have been exhausted completely or that your age is catching up with you . Everyone has at least once felt too tired to get up
dress
drive
work
and come back to the house ten hours later after performing a variety of functions
only to continue cleaning up
filing
cooking
and execute all those routine activities we have learned to complete on a daily basis. But although you tried to sleep your tiredness away
the feeling of fatigue has prevailed and you are now in a worse state than ever before. Do not panic
but instead seek a doctor's advice and perform a medical check up. If all seem to be fine on the physical level
apart from the low energy levels you have been experiencing
then follow these tips and boost your energy to skyrocket heights.

People that experience a low energy period usually comfort themselves by resorting to sleep and adding extra hours of bed time in their attempt to find their lost energy somewhere in-between their bed sheets and covers. This is usually not the right strategy. If you have maintained a steady sleeping schedule
prior to this recent development
which suited your needs perfectly
the extra sleep you are planning to have will not help you increase your energy levels and take control of your life again. On the contrary
if you decide to sleep when your body does not need that extra sleeping time you are increasing the feelings of being tired and lethargic. Thus
instead of sleeping
try to exercise. Energy needs energy to be produced. By performing simple exercises
like walking or swimming
your body will increase its metabolism which will help you get your energy levels again up. Try introducing exercising as part of your daily routine and you will be witnessing a tremendous change in your energy levels as well as mind awareness.

Do not forget to consume fluids and particularly water. Additionally
by adding more vegetables
complex carbohydrates and proteins into your diet
you will see your energy increase and you will feel much better about yourself and be actually healthier than before.

Another tactic to boost your energy levels is to start working on something you have been postponing for a long time
but would love to see yourself doing. Hobbies
interests
volunteer work or house improvement projects can help you get rid of boredom
which can be a very good reason why you feel the way you do. You can invest time in doing things that are fun and relax your body and mind. Going camping

Bluefin Tuna In Danger

The sushi craze is bigger than ever in America right now
with new sushi joints popping up all over the place. Yes
sushi is quite “in.” Of course I realize this isn’t news to anyone
as at this point it might even be on the verge of “out.” But
irregardless of your opinion of sushi
it may not be around for too much longer. Or
at least
sushi as we know it.

You see
America’s growing interest (along with China’s and Russia’s) in the artful Japanese creation has led to a shortage of the most common ingredient used in sushi: bluefin tuna. Not only are bluefin tuna fisheries already being depleted by their original and most frequent consumer (Japan
of course) but global demand for the raw fish is adding quite the insult to injury.

What’s ironic about the situation is that the spreading of culinary traditions across the globe is usually seen as a form of flattery and an extension of cultural influence
but for Japan and its economy
the global sushi “trend” has been nothing short of a detriment. The NYTimes article that reports on Japan’s crisis analogizes that tuna in Japan is as important as steak in America.

Imagine America without steak! Even if you don’t like red meat
there is no doubt that steak is a sun around which the American economy’s planets revolve (but of course
we have multiple “suns.”) I mean really
what would America do? Well
actually
chef Gordon Ramsay has recommended horse meat as a healthier and better tasting steak substitute. America is fortunate enough to not have to resort to any backups (yet)
but even if that weren’t the case
Japan may beat us in the horse races (pun entirely intended).

Yes
you guessed it! Horse meat is Japan’s backup plan!

To keep the sushi economy alive
some Japanese chefs have decided to use raw horse meat or deer to make their sushi. Forgive me if I’m wrong
but the thought of this in America would likely turn stomachs away from sushi for good (and maybe that is their intention!) But in Japan
both raw horse meat and deer are considered delicacies for natives. They just haven’t been placed inside a jacket of seaweed and rice before (not that maki is the only way to enjoy sushi.)

So
a thought on globalization
if you’re still reading:

Do we want to continue spreading our culinary traditions? Often food
no matter where you come from
is based on local resources
which means that sharing the traditions with the rest of the world seems to mean sharing the resources too. At some point
you’d think
a country would have to be selfish
because people in other parts of the world may not appreciate or need a food the way that country does. In fact
one person’s food adventure is another person’s staple
so where does the boundary lie?

I’m not naive as I realize that my comments and thoughts are entirely based on my being American. I know I come from the melting pot world where I’m fortunate enough to have food influences from all around the world readily available to me. And further
I know that this isn’t the case in the rest of the world.

Run for the hills horses! You’re next!

Blue Mountain Coffee 8211 The Taste Of Jamaica

Thursday, 3 September 2009

Coffee beans get their flavor from the climate where they are grown. The Blue Mountains in Jamaica offer some of the finest coffee beans ever found. The Blue Mountains are named for the blue mist that hovers over the mountains at all times. Located on the beautiful island of Jamaica
these mountains offer the perfect climate for growing fantastic coffee beans. This lush
tropical region benefits from plenty of rainfall
giving the soil the rich quality needed for growing the gourmet Blue Mountain coffee.

The beautiful Blue Mountains stand at almost 7
500
feet above the sea and make a stunning backdrop for the pristine white beaches These mountains house over 194
0
acres which are protected as part of the rain forests. There are many different species of birds and plants which can only be found in these mountains.

Blue Mountain coffee beans were originally brought to the Jamaican Islands by Sir Nicholas Lawes who hoped the climate would prove productive for these special beans. Since 1728 these beans have continued to produce extremely well and today coffee is the biggest export of these islands. Blue Mountain coffee is one of the most sought after coffees in the world and Japan imports a large part of this coffee.

Blue Mountain coffee offers a bold
rich taste which is also smooth and sweet. It is grown on small farms instead of being mass produced. Often it is difficult to obtain because of the high demand for the succulent flavor which can only be found in the Jamaican mountain ranges. It is often referred to as the champagne of coffees because of its bold
rich taste. It is also one of the most expensive coffees in the world.

The Threat to Blue Mountain Coffee’s Existence

Blue Mountain coffee is closely monitored by local Jamaican officials to insure the supreme quality associated with its name. These officials grade the quality of the coffee bean before they place it in specific categories. There is close regulation with strict rules which must be met before the coffee bean is offered for sale.

Recent climate changes have posed a threat to Jamaica’s most precious resource. Hurricane Ivan posed a real threat to not only the coffee industry
but the islands themselves. Ivan is just one of a long line of hurricanes which have threatened the islands over the span of only a few years. In 1988 Hurricane Gilbert caused considerable damage to the coffee crop which resulted in a drastic price increase. Each time the island sustains a hit it takes longer for them to rebound which in turn makes the Blue Mountain coffee almost as precious as gold.

Black Tea when Are The Best Pluckings

Black tea has become a worldwide phenomenon. In cafes and coffeehouses
teahouses and trendy bistros
black tea has become a favorite beverage of tea drinkers around the globe. The uniqueness of black tea lies in the processing—a procedure that helps to give the beverage its magnificent flavor and consistency.

Black tea
like green tea and specialty white tea
is derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant. The primary difference between black tea and green tea lies in its fermentation. Through the fermentation procedure
tea leaves take on a red color
then turn black after they have been dried. In sharp contrast
green tea does not undergo fermentation
but instead is heat-treated
enabling it to maintain its distinctive green coloring.

At this point
it’s unclear why fermentation was begun. Perhaps it was created in order to preserve tea for substantial lengths of time. In any case
fermentation helps to give black tea its unique taste. Because of the variety of ways you can serve black tea
it is often highly favored over other forms of tea.

Black teas are generally classified according to their grading. For instance
Pekoe is a black tea that is derived from medium plucking of the second leaf of the tea bush. The term “Pekoe” comes from the Chinese word meaning “white hair.” The terminology refers to early pluckings
which evidence traces of white down. Meanwhile
Broken Orange Pekoe is a smaller leaf tea that has broken segments but a number of tips. In contrast
Broken Pekoe consists of broken portions of a coarse leaf sans tips.

Fannings consist of small grainy leaf particles which have been taken out of higher grade teas. In contrast
Flowery Orange Pekoe may consist of a whole leaf or broken leaf with a great deal of tip
causing it to have a particularly fine quality. Meanwhile
Flowery Pekoe is a black tea with a whole leaf that has been rolled lengthwise
while Orange Pekoe has a leaf ranging in size from eight to 15 millimeters with only a few tips.

The term “dust” refers to the smallest particle leaf size which is customarily utilized for tea bag teas. This is because they tend to reach full flavor and strength quite quickly. In order to be prepared for market
the graded tea leaf is placed into plywood chests which have been lined with aluminum paper.

Black tea may also be specially flavored or scented. These teas are often produced from standard-grade teas that have been accented with flowers
flavored oils
or flavored crystals. Interestingly enough
there can be incredible differences in teas according to the quality and the flavoring. Typically
teas that are derived from natural flavoring techniques create the most flavorful teas. some teas are so aromatic that they are reminiscent of perfume.

While the timing of pluckings can make a difference in terms of a tea’s consistency
it is the region in which it is harvested that often makes the biggest impact. For instance
Assam tea is grown in a region in northern India and is known for its full-bodied strength. Darjeeling
in northeast India
produces what’s often known as the champagne of teas. These teas are legendary for their scent and light flavoring.

Darjeeling tea can actually come in a variety of flavors
including flowery and nutty. Meanwhile
Keemum from China and Taiwan is frequently called the burgundy of teas
thanks to its sweet
rich
fruity flavor.

Lapsang Souchong
also from China and Taiwan
is known for its smokiness—a smokiness which comes from drying the tea leaves over a fire. It is often referred to as an evening tea because it tends to be low in caffeine. Meanwhile
Yunnan
derived from China’s Yunnan province
is full-bodied and slightly peppery in nature.

You may be curious about the differences between black tea and green tea. Both types of tea can have significant therapeutic benefits
but green tea is the older of the two and tends to have less caffeine. As a result
green tea might be considered generally more soothing than black tea
although there are varieties of black tea that are known for calming nerves.

Pluckings are only part of the story
when it comes to evaluating the merits of tea. However
early pluckings can be indicative of a superior variety. The more you drink black tea
the more you’ll come to appreciate its unique qualities. It is a beverage that can really grow on you and
with so many varieties to choose from
you may find that you’ll never get bored with it.

A growing body of research indicating its health benefits is also a key selling point. As a result
chances are good that black tea will continue to grow in popularity in the years ahead in localities around the globe.
